The SCD Documentation Centre includes 16 libraries: University Library, 4 integrated libraries (Psychology and Education; Languages and Foreign Cultures; the Technology Institute in Ville d’Avray and the Léonard de Vinci campus in La Défense) and 12 associated libraries (Economic and Social Administration/Sociology, Performing Arts, Law, Geography, History/Art History, Humanities, Library Science, Philosophy, Economics/Management/Mathematics/Computer Science, Sports Sciences and Physical Education, Urban Studies). This makes the SCD Documentation Centre one of the most extensive and respected library systems in France.

The University Library is divided into large reading rooms dedicated to specific disciplines: Law and Political Science, Social Sciences, Human Sciences, Economics, Languages and Literature. The library is open to the public and measures a spacious 9,000 sq. metres. It also has a video library, press reading room and a comic book section. In addition to the 1,500 places for individual study, there are also 9 group study areas.

The University Library is open Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 8.00 pm and on Saturday from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Faculty and students may borrow books, DVDs, and comic books. They can consult theses and press publications. The Documentation Portal allows users to access online resources such as databases, press publications, and e-books. Borrowing library resources is available to users, the inter-library system and the mobility-impaired. The library offers different services to its patrons: a computer room, training, lending of computers/tablets and a photocopy service. University librarians are available to help you discover the library and assist you in your research.

La Contemporaine. Library, Archive and Museum of worlds of the contemporary era. is a library-museum renowned for its collections covering the history of the 20th and 21st centuries, with a focus on international relations.
The collections of the BDIC are unique, due to the diversity of their origins, the range of topics covered, and the variety of the types of documents that are conserved.

The collections text-based collections, which encompass close to 3 million documents—books, periodicals, as well as written and audiovisual archives -in several different languages, are consultable at the library’s site at the University Paris Nanterre.

In addition, La Contemporaine’s museum site in Paris houses its image-based collections, comprising nearly 1.5 million works of art, photographs, posters, political cartoons and objects.

Welcoming researchers from all backgrounds and nationalities, La Contemporaine serves as a center for scholarly research, while also sharing its collections with the general public through yearly exhibits at its museum site.
Recent exhibits include, The USSR Checkmated. Perestroika 1985-1991; Posters in Action: When Political Writing Comes out into the Streets; From the Front. Representing the Great War; International Graphics. Collections of Political Posters from 1979 to 1990.

The Archaeology and Ancient History Library of the MAE Archaeology and Ethnology Research Centre is specialised in prehistory and protohistory, and in ancient/medieval history until 1000 A.D.

Generous donations have successively enriched its collections: : Jacques Tixier, Jean Bottéro, material about Eastern archaeology from the Michelet Institute of Art and Archaeology, etc.

The library has 46,000 monographs and 1,425 periodicals, including 420 current titles open to all patrons.

It is open to researchers, research professors, PhD and Master’s level students from French and foreign institutes of higher education and research. To access the collections, go to the main desk in the library and show a valid faculty or student card.

The library is open from Monday to Thursday (from 9.30 am to 6.00 pm) and on Friday (from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm). It is closed every year during the week of 15 August.
