Accommodation
Our Welcome Desk provides information and support to all international students, PhD students and researchers arriving at the University Paris Nanterre.
- Where can I find accommodation in the Paris region?
-
Finding accommodation in the Paris region can be complicated. To increase your chances, it is essential to be flexible about location and not limit your search to the vicinity of Nanterre or Paris (see the “Practical Life” section for a list of towns served by transport linked to University Paris Nanterre).
- How much does housing cost in the Paris region?
-
Rents in the Paris region start at €550 per month (prices vary depending on the geographical area and housing conditions). In addition to this price, you will have to pay private charges (water, electricity, compulsory home insurance) and a security deposit (equivalent to one or two months' rent excluding charges).
Make sure you have a sufficient budget for accommodation, without counting on housing assistance: it is not guaranteed and can sometimes take several months to be paid (for more information on APL, see the “Practical Life” section).
Beware of scams: choose official student residences and professional housing agencies. If you wish to book accommodation with a private individual, take the necessary precautions:- ask for a formal rental agreement;
- do not make any payment before you arrive and have seen the accommodation;
- if you are asked to pay in advance, make sure you have all the official documents (rental agreement, owner's identity and contact details) and ask for proof of any payment you make.
If you have any doubt, please do not hesitate to contact us.
- How to find accommodation?
-
We recommend that you start your search at least 3 months before your arrival. All student residences and private landlords require a guarantor. If you do not have a physical guarantor in France, you can opt for an organization that will act as a guarantor for you.
- If you are under 30: Garantie Visale, a service provided by Action Logement, will cover you free of charge. Applications can be made online on their website.
- If you are over 30: you can choose a paid organization such as Garantme, Cautioneo, Smartgarant, etc.
